Mr Staley will outline a brief history of bank lending, comparing the differences between the European and US capital markets and the implications they have for policy. He will discuss the purpose we want capital markets to play in society and their key role in delivering domestic capital to fund infrastructure.
He will explain how, in the context of Brexit, policymakers and banks can work together to overcome the risk finance gap which poses barriers to small companies accessing funds for investment. He will examine how we can promote the role of early stage venture markets in providing businesses with the capital they need to drive economic growth.
Jes joined Barclays as Group Chief Executive on 1st December 2015. He has nearly four decades of extensive experience in banking and financial services. He worked for more than 30 years at JPMorgan Chase, initially training as a commercial banker, and later advancing to the leadership of major businesses involving Equities, Private Banking and Asset Management, and ultimately heading the company’s global Investment Bank.
